The Consul of the Republic of Benin in Rio de Janeiro, His Excellency Mr. Cesar Augusto Maia, participates in the event in honor of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, established by the UNO and organized this year at the Palace Itamaraty in Rio de Janeiro by the United Nations Information Center in Brazil in association with the Israelite Federation of the State of Rio de Janeiro – FIERJ. The event also counted with other authorities as the Secretary of the Environment, Carlos Minc, representing Governor Sérgio Cabral, and the Minister chief of the Department of Human Rights, Maria do Rosário Nunes. This year, the event paid special tribute to women. With the theme "Women and the Holocaust: courage and compassion", the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, established in 2005, remembered the histories of Jewish women who, during the Second World War, struggled to keep the family and religious traditions and faced the threat of death courageously.
